WHAT IS PILATES?

Pilates is a form of exercise that uses simple, fluid movements to stimulate the activity of the deep abdominal and deep back muscles (also known as the “core muscles”) to improve movement. Pilates works the whole body from the inside out by engaging both the body and mind.

Pilates has an extremely flexible exercise system. It allows for a range of exercise modifications from beginning to advanced, addressing injuries and other limitations as well as assisting you in your athletic goals.

Improving core muscle control, coordination, flexibility and strength will create a balance within the body. Combined with developing proper techniques, the body will learn to move in a safer, more efficient pattern of motion.

The benefits of a body trained for core strength and flexibility are many. It provides an optimal foundation for sports training and performance, good posture and overall well-being. Pilates is also an excellent basis for dealing with injury recovery and physical rehabilitation.

We will work toward a stronger core, enhance your flexibility and condition the whole body with various exercises on the mat and equipment (Reformer, Cadillac, Chair, fitness circle, fitness ball, foam roller, balance equipment, flex bands and light weights).

Pilates Mat - (beginner-intermediate) combines mat class exercises and the classical philosophy of Pilates apparatus work without the use of equipment. You will look to your own body to create resistance. This is an amazing way to connect with and strengthen your core. You may enhance your practice by taking private or semi-private sessions as well.
Group Equipment Class - You will utilize some of the Pilates apparatus
and incorporate mat-work into each session. Sign up in advance. Space
is limited.
Semi-Private-A duo session. You will utilize some of the Pilates apparatus
and incorporate mat-work into each session. By appointment only.
Reformer Class - You will begin with the basic Pilates mat work. After the mat work, the intensity increases with a combination of resistance training and stretching. You will utilize Pilates apparatus, small hand weights, your own body weight and resistance bands for a fun yet challenging total body workout.
Private Pilates Session - A one-on-one session with an instructor for 55 minutes. You will utilize the Pilates apparatus as well as incorporating Pilates mat work into the session. This session is highly recommended for beginners, those with special needs, and people who like to have the exclusive attention of an instructor. You may enhance your practice by taking mat and equipment classes as well. By appointment only.
